Biography
Sofia Merajver, MD, PhD is Professor of Internal Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Michigan. Sofia holds a PhD in Physics and MD from the UM. Dr. Merajver is Scientific Director of the Breast Oncology Program and Director of the Breast and Ovarian Cancer Risk Evaluation Clinic. She has published 285 manuscripts in the peer-reviewed literature. The subjects of her scholarship range from precision oncology and innovative developmental therapeutics to genetic and phenotypic determinants of aggressive. She strives to improve through research women’s global cancer health in worldwide, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.

Clinical and Research Tools Showcase: Drug Screening from the Clinic to the Lab and Back in 7 Days
Towards precision drug selection for each patient, the Merajver-Soellner-Gilani labs have developed a platform for rapid tailored drug screening of approved and INDs drugs on tumor organoids derived from resection samples. Dr.Merajver will present the rationale, methodologies, and outlook of this approach to future prioritizing of drug/treatment selection for patients within days. Correlation and integration with genomics and expression data will be presented.
