Biography

Dr. Esplin is board certified in clinical genetics and internal medicine and heads clinical studies and medical information at Invitae, with one focus being the clinical utility of preventive genetic screening in healthy individuals for disease risk. Dr. Esplin completed the MSTP program at UT Southwestern obtaining his MD and a PhD in genetics. After internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern, he was appointed assistant professor of the UT Southwestern Department of Internal Medicine and practiced as a hospitalist at the Dallas VA Medical Center. Dr. Esplin completed his clinical genetics training at Stanford University and was an NIH-funded Tashia and John Morgridge Endowed Postdoctoral Fellow under Mike Snyder in the Stanford Department of Genetics, where he maintains an academic appointment. He is a fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) and the American College of Physicians (ACP). Prior to joining Invitae, he practiced clinical genetics at Kaiser Permanente’s San Francisco Medical Center as Fellowship program and by the National Institutes of Health-funded Stanford Clinical and Translational Science Award.
