Session Abstract – PMWC 2017 Silicon Valley
Session Synopsis: This session focuses on community oncologists in their quest to integrate and embrace precision oncology – a very relevant topic given that 80% of oncology care in the US takes place in the community setting. We will hear from a community oncologist and a health care administrator about how they overcome struggles to solidify a process for institutional engagement while incorporating precision oncology into practice.

Biography
Lincoln Nadauld, MD, PhD, is the Executive Director of Precision Medicine and Precision Genomics at Intermountain Healthcare. Dr. Nadauld recently participated in the Precision Medicine Initiative Summit and roundtables at the White House with President Barack Obama. He also attended Vice President Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot Summit, where the Oncology Precision Network (OPeN), spearheaded by Dr. Nadauld, was mentioned among the Vice President’s remarks. OPeN is a consortium of healthcare partners working to advance data-sharing in precision medicine, including genomic information and outcomes. Dr. Nadauld completed his undergraduate education at Brigham Young University, and went on to complete combined MD/PhD and clinical training at the University of Utah. He completed clinical training in Medical Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in solid tumor genomics.

Biography
Dr. Marton serves as a consultant to industry and to nonprofit, governmental, and academic institutions. In the nonprofit sector, Dr. Marton serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Association for Cancer Research Foundation, and on the Board of Directors of Cancer Commons, Rapid Science, and the Bay Area American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science. In the for-profit sector, he serves on the Board of Directors of TOMA Biosciences, RenovoRx, Microsonic Systems and Pathologica, is Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of PharmaJet, is on the Advisory Boards of Gem Pharmaceuticals, Matternet, Silicom Ventures, and the PMWC. Dr. Marton received his MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and his BA from Yeshiva University.

FACHE, Corporate Vice President of Operations and Research for Scripps Health and Scripps Proton Therapy Center
Biography
Tim Collins is Corporate Vice President of Operations and Research, and is responsible for the clinical operations of the Scripps Proton Therapy Center. Tim joined Scripps Health in November 2006 as the Chief Operations Executive for Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, a 138-bed hospital, and later served as Chief Operations Executive for Scripps Green Hospital. In 2010 Tim assumed the role of Corporate Vice President of Operations, responsible for all system-wide support services for the organization’s five hospitals and outpatient locations. Tim came to Scripps with more than 17 years of health care systems experience. Tim is a graduate of University of Southern California where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master’s of Science degree in Health Care Administration. Tim is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives, is a licensed Emergency Medical Technician, and is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in interdisciplinary and organizational leadership.

Biography
Dr. Edmund Tai is a medical oncologist in Mountain View, California and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including El Camino Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. He received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and has been in practice for 33 years. He was part of the team that introduced a clinical genetics department in Palo Alto Medical Foundation in 2013 dedicated to providing consultation and guidance on patient management in the context of personalized medicine based on genomics and genetics. The knowledge in PM is expanding but clinical validation remains elusive and it will require clinical wisdom to evaluate it properly and optimize its role. The clinical genetics department is focused on oncology and prenatal testing as these are the most established fields impacted by new technologies.

Biography
Kevin Knopf is a Health Economist and Health Services researcher as well as a practicing oncologist and site lead for oncology for Sutter Health in San Francisco. His research focuses on large scale data analytics (“big data”), patterns and quality of care in oncology, health disparities in cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment, and cost-effectiveness in cancer care. He started his research career in the Health Economics and Outcomes Research Branch at the NCI, and the Prostate Cancer Outcomes Study. He is an editor at Value Based Cancer Care and the Journal of Community Oncology. He is also Vice President of the nonprofit Rooms that Rock 4 Chemo. He has clinical faculty positions at Dartmouth Medical School and the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. Dr. Knopf holds degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed his clinical training at Northwestern Medical School, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the National Cancer Institute.
