How major will the changes be? Will we see a change in regulations, research funding, and drug or device approval? Will the oversight of different government initiatives – Cancer Moonshot Initiative, All of Us Research Program, BRAIN Initiative, and Human Microbiome Project – change and with that the goals and directions of those initiatives? What regulations will the health insurance industry see? Many questions, but no answers yet!
What can we anticipate? (As per the President Elect website) The Food and Drug Administration will see a reform, to put greater focus on the need of patients for new and innovative medical products; Medicare may change, but it is uncertain to what extent; and we can expect less rigid oversight on prescription drug pricing.

- An update on Cancer Moonshot, The BRAIN Initiative, All for Us Research Program (previously known as the Precision Medicine Initiative), and the Human Microbiome Project (HMP).
- An NIH-chaired panel discussion on new technologies and biomarker strategies for better clinical predictive value.
- A fireside chat with the FDA commissioner Robert Califf and Keith Yamamoto on FDA’s Role and Responsibility in expediting best treatments for patients, which couldn’t be more timely considering the President-Elect’s recent suggestion to reform the FDA.
- An All of Us Research Program-chaired update on the progress of Integrating Precision Medicine: Technical Challenges and Solutions.
- Last but not least, we will have Atul Butte, the director of the UCSF Institute for Computational Health Sciences, professor of pediatrics and principal investigator of CIAPM, joining the conference.

The Cancer Moonshot
The Cancer Moonshot Task Force just issued a report describing activities including how to achieve the Cancer Moonshot’s goals while in parallel announcing a big push for cancer blood tests.

The NIH Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program expands to California and announced a name change to “All of US” Research Program to better reflect its set of core values.

Governor Brown and UCSF just announced the selection of six new projects for CIAPM.
