Biography
Dr. Williams founded Five Prime in 2001 and is currently its President, CEO and Chairman of the Board. Previously, Dr. Williams was head of R&D and Chief Scientific Officer of Chiron Corporation. Prior to joining Chiron, he was a professor of medicine at UCSF and served as Director of the University’s Cardiovascular Research Institution. He co-founded COR Therapeutics. Dr. Williams trained in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital where he was also Assistant Professor at the Harvard Medical School. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Williams currently serves on the board of directors of Protagonist Therapeutics, and was previously a member of the boards of directors of Chiron, COR Therapeutics, and Beckman Coulter. Dr. Williams received a B.S. from Rice University and an M.D. and a Ph.D. from Duke University.
