Biography
Dr. Joshua Denny is Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Medicine, Director of the Center for Precision Medicine and Vice President of Personalized Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Medical and a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is PI of nodes in the Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Network, Pharmacogenomics Research Network (PGRN), and the Implementing Genomics into Practice (IGNITE) Network. To date, Dr. Denny has led >100 genome‐wide and candidate gene association studies using EHR data linked to genetic data. He is PI of the Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) All of UsSM (AoU) Research Program Direct Volunteer Pilot and the PMI AoU Data and Research Support Center. Dr. Denny serves on a number of mentoring committees and has trained >30 postdoctoral and predoctoral trainees. He remains active in clinical care and in teaching students.

Session Synopsis: Traditional data silos too often slow down the scientific progress. To benefit from a data-driven healthcare approach we need to make data accessible, manageable, and interpretable. This requires data standardization and overcoming interoperability issues, a major focus of this session.
