Session Abstract – PMWC 2019 Silicon Valley

Session Synopsis: The “collective impact” movement has resulted in successful collaborations in the social sector as it brought together various stakeholders within an ecosystem to help remedy some of the most urgent problems. This multi-stakeholder panel – patient, payor, regulator, and venture representatives – will dissect this model and review its potential application for the precision medicine sector to understand what is required to create an ecosystem of shared value within PM, what obstacles need to be overcome, and what structure is needed to enable effective collaboration to reach common goals.

Biography

Jennifer Splansky Juster is Executive Director of the fielding-building initiative the Collective Impact Forum, and is a Director in FSG’s San Francisco office. Over the course of her career, Jennifer has worked with a range of foundations, nonprofits, government agencies, and corporations across sectors on issues of strategy, evaluation, and program design. She is one of FSG’s leaders in collective impact field building, has worked on multiple collective impact engagements, designed training opportunities for collective impact practitioners, and frequently speaks on the topic. Jennifer is also a member of FSG’s Education & Youth and US Health impact areas. Jennifer’s career began with the Triage Consulting Group, where she worked with hospitals to improve their revenue cycle management, business office processes, and managed care contract negotiations. Jennifer holds an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and a B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University.

Biography

Gertjan Bartlema, is the Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Business Development at Celularity, Inc. Previously he served as Vice President, Information Knowledge Utilization at Celgene Corporation in New Jersey and held positions as General Manager Middle East, Africa & Greece and Executive Director Marketing & Sales Excellence for Celgene EMEA, based in Switzerland. He was a member of Celgene’s Business Development team that acquired Gloucester Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Abraxis BioScience Inc. Mr. Bartlema joined Celgene in 2006 as part of their EMEA management team. Mr. Bartlema, started his career in Biotech in 1997 at Amgen’s European headquarters, based in Switzerland and joined their Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis group in 1999 in Thousand Oaks, California. Mr. Bartlema holds a master’s degree in economics from Maastricht University, The Netherlands and has a dual Dutch and Swiss citizenship.

Biography

Dr. Dalton is also the past President, CEO & Center Director of the Moffitt Cancer Center. In 2014, the Moffitt Cancer Center and the James Cancer Center at the Ohio State University, founded the cancer center alliance called ORIEN, Oncology Research Information and Exchange Network, with the goal of accelerating cancer research by sharing information and promoting collaborative learning through partnerships. ORIEN is now comprised of seventeen cancer centers in the nation and has formed strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical companies for research and matching patients to clinical trials. Dr. Dalton’s research interests include molecular mechanisms of drug resistance and developing information systems to enhance learning and evidence-based decision making. He has over 200 publications, and has numerous patents in the fields of drug discovery and computer/information networking.

Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and Projects, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
Biography

As Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), Jenny oversees the organization’s strategic partnerships and large-scale projects, including the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition, a group of almost 80 pancreatic cancer organizations in over 30 countries working to raise awareness and rewrite history for the world’s toughest cancer. She also represents PanCAN on the Kraft Precision Medicine Accelerator Direct-to-Patient workstream. Jenny joined the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in 2012 in the newly-created position of Vice President, Community Engagement, responsible for fundraising and the organization’s national volunteer affiliate program. In 2015, Jenny became Vice President, Marketing & Communications, overseeing the organization’s marketing, public relations and communications strategy. She transitioned to Vice President of Strategic Partnerships in 2017. Jenny lives in Los Angeles, CA with her husband, Barry Isaacson, a feature film producer, their two young adult children, and a pair of Ocicats which resemble snow leopards.
